Based on the homonymous play, this film follows the adventures of a African-American grandmother named Mable "Madea" Simmons (Tyler Perry), whose inclination to getting into trouble brings her in front of a court that sends her to jail. Meanwhile district attorney, Joshua Hardaway (Derek Luke), who is preparing to get married with his fiancee, Linda (Ion Overman), and who is about to obtain significant success in his career, sees his personal and professional life threaten when he gets emotional involved in a case. The case is about a young and former drug addict prostitute named Candance Washington (Keshia Knight Pulliam), with who Joshua has a common past. The moment the beautiful Candance goes to prison, Madea takes the girl under her protection and defends her from the other prisoners.
