Tom Adkins (Jon Hamm) investigates an abduction and possible murder case from fifty years in the past involving the son of a widower named Matthew Wakefield (Josh Lucas). The son, a simple boy whose behavior sometimes caused problems for his family, disappeared while his father was working as a hired hand. Tom also experiences marital strain with his wife, Barbara (Rhona Mitra), because his own son has gone missing from a carnival. This adds to the pressure he feels while working on the old case. Tom eventually discovers a disturbing connection between the two boys’ disappearances and hears a startling confession.
